It’s been a long time since I’ve done a weekly wrap up. I feel like we are still recovering from the craziness of December!
We have a few changes/areas of focus (LINK NY) to make this semester. One of them is to try a timed, on paper schedule. Until a year or so ago, a loose rhythm to our day worked well. Everything was completed on time (generally!), we weren’t stopping in the middle of assignments, and there was enough of me to go around. Those things aren’t so true anymore. I sat down with my oldest, so we could thoughtfully plot it.
One schedule downfall for me is that I hate the feeling of not having flexibility, so I was careful to add some of that to it. The schedule is still being tweaked. We are only a few days into it but I think it can work. This week Elizabeth had her printed schedule, this week I’m going to introduce it to the boys. We will continue to revise it as needed but I hope it gives us a little more structure to the day while leaving open the space to be flexible.
Pets make our school days better.
The schools had Monday off because of the weather. So Matthew protested our homeschool not getting off by wearing his PJs to school. That’s an act of rebellion I chose not to fight!! The kids all were sick on Monday, as well, so cozy PJs and cold weather made the school day easier.
Holes is our current audiobook. We were almost done and our loan expired!! Luckily, no one else had it on reserve, so we were able to grab it from Overdrive right away. Nate the Great books have been a hit with Matthew. He received Nate the Great Goes Undercover for Christmas and he was eager to grab a couple more at the library. Peanut Butter & Brains: A Zombie Culinary Tale, another Christmas gift, has been his favorite read-aloud this week.
