Pictures are up!

I got our pictures up!  You can see them at: Our New Home

If anyone still needs our address, please e-mail us at jtbrookover@gmail.com  I’m having a tough time accessing the comments that get left on here, so e-mailing is a better way to reach us.

We have an address!

I sent out an e-mail with our new address.  If you didn’t receive it, e-mail me at jtbrookover@gmail.com and I’ll send it on.  We lost some e-mail addresses in the move, so I didn’t have many.

We drove by our house after we signed the lease.  We have one building next to us and our garage backs up to an alley with, I think, six families.  We are on the end and our side & front yard opens up to a big lot.  We face a busy street but we’re set back from it a good distance.

Good news: They have loaner furniture available for us including living room furniture, washer & dryer, dining room table and bedroom furniture.  That should come on the 18th.

Bad news: Our first shipment of goods isn’t scheduled to be here until the 28th.   Which means we’re basically in the same boat as we were last summer.  So we’re hitting the thrift shops this week to look for some pots & pans, etc.  And we’ll need to buy some bedding linens.  And a few Christmas decorations that were in that shipment.

All new patients at our hospital get an ultrasound, so we’re going today to see Ben one more time before we get to hold him in our arms.  Jim is done processing for the day, so he’ll get to go this time!

I uploaded some pictures from the beach.  Click here: First Beach Day

A house!

We have a move-in date!  The residents of our place already vacated and we can move in on the 18th.  We’re doing it sight unseen but we can’t really think of anything that would keep us from accepting it that wouldn’t be covered during the maintenance inspection walk-through.  Jim goes in tomorrow to sign the lease.  We’ll get an address tomorrow and we’ll send out out as soon as we can.  Jim will call tomorrow to see when our stuff will be here–hopefully we’ll get it by early next week.

We’re Here!

The flight was much smoother than I expected.  We got to the Atlanta airport plenty early.  We headed to the USO lounge to relax but it was packed, so we went on to our gate.  The wait went pretty quickly.  The flight itself wasn’t too bad.  Elizabeth did pretty well.  All the kids on the plane started to break down about 8:30 and then they all drifted off to sleep.  Jim was able to sleep as well but I had no luck.  After we arrived here, we gathered our luggage and then headed to the USO so Jim could sign in and we could get transportation.  The inn on base was filled, so they put us in a Best Western near the airport.  The room is nice enough.  If we have to stay in it for more than another week or two, it’ll start to feel small really quickly!!!

If you haven’t watched the news, Hawaii is having all kinds of storms.  Yesterday schools all over the island were closed due to down electrical lines & strong winds.  Flash flood warnings.  And strong wind advisories.  Today is supposed to be the last day of it and then it should clear up.

Tuesday we went to base to get on the housing wait list, pick up some food at the commissary and get a basic feel for it.  Yesterday we went down to Waikiki to go to the beach and explore.  Today we want to go to the hospital so I can get registered and get in for an OB appointment.

They have housing that will be available later this month.  We aren’t positive that we want to live on-base, so we’re going to explore a few off-base housing options.   But the one that is available to us is really nice.  3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, storage closet upstairs in addition to a linen closet and the closets in the bedrooms.  Laundry room w/space for a small deep freezer (something I want).  A great room & a living room, so we could use the living room as a play room.  Built-in computer desk in the great room/kitchen area.  Plus a fenced-in backyard and garage.  Its also within walking distance to the PX & commissary as well as the hourly-care day care center.  You can find the description of it at:

From Georgia, We’re Signing Off

Almost 15 months after we arrived, we are ready to start our next adventure.  We are eager to see Hawaii and find out what is in store for us.

It has been a good year for us.  I was very lucky to find a wonderful mom’s group just after arriving.  I felt welcome by the end of the first meeting.  We found a good church.  And, best of all, we got to see Jim much more than we expected.

We arrive into Honolulu appx. 9pm local time (3am our time).  We have to sign in at the USO and, hopefully, someone from Jim’s unit will be there waiting to take us to the inn on base.  Jim has to report on Tuesday and we’ll then learn what the rest of the week’s schedule will be.  Hopefully we’ll get to start house-hunting before the weekend.  Our first shipment should be there 1-2 weeks after we arrive.

We can be reached at our same cell phone numbers and our temporary e-mail address is jtbrookover@gmail.com  We hope to have internet access at the inn.  If not, the library is nearby.  We’ll try to check in on it at least once a day and I’ll also try to post updates on here.
