Happy Thanksgiving!
We hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving Day. It would have been nice to be able to be with family today. But we’re thankful to be together since we didn’t even know if he’d have this weekend off.
Jim was home before 6 this morning. It was wonderful to see him sitting in the living room when we came downstairs. We’ve watched the Macy’s parade and they have played hard. Football is on now and probably won’t be off until Jim leaves Sunday. ![]()
Six Weeks Done!
Jim called a bit ago to say he gets off tonight & tomorrow! They were already off when he called (7pm) but he has desk duty from 9-10pm. He’s off all day tomorrow though. Columbus is hosting a God Bless Fort Benning celebration tomorrow, so I think we’ll go to that.
I didn’t talk to Jim long but he said the week in the field was good but exhausting. They did get to come in from the rain on Wednesday long enough to do a couple classes, shower and dry their clothes.
We had Elizabeth’s appointment for early intervention today. She’s continuing to test behind but on a slightly higher point on the curve (that’s a good thing). The speech therapist noticed some oral-motor issues with Elizabeth involving her tongue. She suspects E has some issues with control of tongue movement which would impact her ability to be able to produce more sounds. It was interesting to see what she picked up on and how they linked up to her speech delay. She gave us a couple homework assignments to work on and she’ll be coming out every two weeks. I really liked the trio that came out but especially look forward to working with the speech therapist.
Speaking of Elizabeth & speech…she has two new words this week–Geen (pronounced like green but without the r) for Granny and GG!
This & That
What a nice trip to Indiana we had! It was wonderful to see everyone. The trip home was a little rough with three spots of construction, another backup due to a car accident and a toddler who was terribly frustrated with being in the car (so was her mama!). Better to end the trip that way, though, than to start it that way!
Jim had a four-day weekend for Veteran’s Day. We had a mostly quiet weekend. Elizabeth was thrilled to have him home, of course. And she’s adjusted well to him being gone again. I’ve been very thankful for that!!
Jim is out in the field again this week. I should hear from him on Friday.
He has the opportunity for an overnight pass this weekend. Next week they have a Thanksgiving dinner Wednesday (gotta’ wear their Class As to it!) and their pass begins on Thursday. He can’t travel more than 250 miles away, so we will stick around here. Since he is getting turkey on Wednesday, I think we’re having my preferred Thanksgiving dinner–pizza! ![]()
Merry Christmas from the Army!
What news! Jim called Friday to let me know that he had been over to the shipping office. Our goods have LEFT Germany and are on their way to Georgia!!! The shipment is expected by December 13 and could possibly be there even earlier. (Guess what we’ll be doing over Jim’s Christmas break??!) 6-8 weeks is the expected time frame and the 13th would be eight weeks. Maybe I’ll get a birthday present from the army! Mom’s coming down that weekend, so she would get the pleasure of helping me unpack! :D
Eight months and many, many miles later, I finally believe we might actually see our goods again. Crawling into bed that night will be amazing!!
Coming Home!
As it turns out, I think we’re heading to Indiana tomorrow instead of Saturday! I didn’t want to leave until Saturday b/c the cats were going to be boarded and that would be an extra day and extra $$$. But I found a professional pet sitter to come by (for much less!!), so I think we’re heading out tomorrow after lunch. I’d love to get all the way home tomorrow but I doubt that is going to happen. We’ll see.
I haven’t heard from Jim this week. Tomorrow is his land navigation test. They get dropped at different points in the woods with coordinates to find their way back. It has been pretty cool at night. I hope he’s staying warm enough! We’ve had to turn our heat on a couple nights this week. Not what I expected.
