DA!
Posted by admin4
Well, according to Jim, E said her first word today! Her new sound is "da". Over and over. While I tried to convince Jim that it wasn't an actual word but she was just practiving the sound, he doesn't believe me. And I figure it is best, in this case, to just let him believe that E is saying his name.
Though he now says this proves she loves him more than me. I say that might be true IF he had the food source! Until then, he can keep dreaming!!
Sleep, Pictures, Good Friends & a Possible Night on the Town?

Yes, another entry on my daughter & her sleeping. It’s the big topic for me right now, never far from my thoughts. After heeding off last night’s midnight waking, I heard her again around 12:30 & again halted that wake-up. I wasn’t as quick, however, about 1:30. By the time I got to her, there was no simple comfoting by putting my hand on her back!! Still, last night’s sleep was a better one. She skipped her evening nap tonight and hasn’t even stirred yet (12:21), so we’ll see how tonight goes.
I took E to get her pictures taken today. I had another coupon for $1.88 for appx. 50 pictures of various sizes. I had timed E’s morning nap just so and when the photographer was late, I should have just turned around then. It was just a bad experience. The photographer was good at getting E’s attention but wasn’t quick enough with the button. She was taking forever with each pose & E was losing patience. E wanted to stand, stick her toes in her mouth & chew on her fingers…story of our lives…but not exactly conducive to great pictures that show her face. I ended up only getting the package for which I had the coupon. I think I might try Sears this week as I have some coupons that expire in a couple weeks.
We had a really nice time at my friend’s house tonight. We ordered food from a local teriyaki place, played with the kids and had some nice chats. She & I are currently sharing a lot of the same feelings as far as deployment & “single” parenting go, so it was nice to share together. Looking forward to doing this more often.
And NEXT Saturday night I think I might have an evening out!!! Another friend of ours from my volunteer office is in a play. The couple, who’s daughter we watched tonight, went out tonight so that they can then babysit for the other kids’ next Saturday night while others attend the play. They’ve ofered to watch E also. So I have a week to see how this cereal and/or fruit is going to work out. I’d love to be able to go to both dinner AND the play but I’m afraid that is going to push it. Of the two, I’d prefer to go to the play but with that not beginning until 8, I’m afraid E will have issues going down to bed by someone other than me. Dinner, though, she at least be easy enough.
Lisanne–Sorry the photo thing didn’t work out as well as you’d hoped.
You sure did score us a good deal on those Walgreens coupons for after our wedding, though! haha
Tricia–I don’t remember that!
Lisanne–You don’t??? Oh gosh, do you remember the photo developing coupons that you gave us, from Walgreens? We went there after our wedding reception and dropped off all of our reception disposable cameras.
Tricia–I remember you going to drop off the cameras but not the coupons!
Hard to believe that was almost five years ago…And now here we are as mothers!!

I heard E starting to wake up a few minutes ago (right on schedule). Hoping to keep her from waking up completly, I went in, put my hand on her back and turned on her FP aquarium music thingy. Very quickly she was snoing!! And she is still snoring!!!
I know that this midnight BFing session is simply habit. We’ve eaten around midnight almost every night since she was born. And we had midnight snacks almost every night while in utero too. LOL She barely eats at this feeding and falls back asleep almost as quickly as she woke up. She should no longer need to eat again this soon so my first goal is to break her of this midnight-rousing.
Ten minutes later and nothing…

Off Schedule

So I came upstairs at 10. Needed to check my work mail & reply to a few personal e-mails. My plan was then to hurry back downstairs to watch TV and maybe doze a bit before E gets up for her midnight feeding. Well, it is 11:41 and I have yet to make it back downstairs!! Story of my day.
Went to the commissary to pick up a couple things. I allotted 15 minutes for the trip. 45 minutes later…
Went into the office to finish off the newsletter & get it printed so office staff could staple, fold, stuff & mail. Planned to be out by one, at the latest. Left at 5:30. On the up-side, part of the reason I didn’t leave when I planned to was that E was having a great day back in the day care. I was a little worried when I dropped her off as one of the ladies she doesn’t seem to like was there & the other one has only been there once. I heard her yell, rather loduly, just twice–once when she decided she was finally ready to eat (I had just tried five minutes earlier–heaven forbid she eat when someone else suggests it!! LOL) and once, for just a few seconds, right before she dropped off to sleep (rather normal for her). Tuesday I tried to put her in there but she would just have none of it. Yesterday was pretty good too.
So I left at 5:30 to go to dinner with a friend from the office. Planned to have her home by 7:00. Dropped her off at 7:50.
Did bedtime routine with E, put her down and started reading. Planned to read for 15 minutes. 50 minutes later…(good reason to go off-schedule though!)
I’m hoping tomorrow is a better day for staying on schedule!! We have E’s pictures in the morning, I need to return a movie & pick another one up (I have eight rentals on a 10-rental card left and the card expires at the end of March), I need to mail a package to Jim and run to the library. Tomorrow night I’m going over to a friend’s house (a fellow volunteer in my office) for the evening. She is babysitting the daughter of another volunteer. She invited me over for dinner and to hang out. It should be a nice evening. I really like her but we haven’t spent any one-on-one time together. I’m looking forward to that time.
I should go. E should be up soon unless tonight is the night we decide to sleep all night long (HA!). And I need to feed the cats, unload & load the dishwasher and get our things ready for tomorrow.
