I’m in a total funk right now. Things to share that I’m not ready to do yet. But, more than that, I’m feeling lonely and blah this week as I have so many other weeks. This summer has seen my few close friends move away. And I don’[t think that’s something you ever get used to doing. Then we had R&R and then went on a last-minute trip to Indiana. Wonderful! But now I’m here, alone. Next week my base bible study and MOPS start up, so that will be good. But this week I could really just use a friend to come over and chat with me. We’ve gotten some new neighbors but none that I’ve really connected with. The one newish neighbor I have connected with just had a baby, her husband is getting ready to deploy and her in-laws are here. Plus she has three other kids. So her plate is full. And so I’m lonely and blah.

I’ve had a hard time making friends at this base. Good friends. The kind you call up just to shoot the breeze for 10 minutes. The kind you can have deep conversations with. To some degree I just haven’t put myself out there enough. We moved at a weird point for me with being so far pregnant and over the holidays. By the time the holidays were over, I was ready to pop. And by the time I was getting really moving again after giving birth, programs like MOPS & my base bible study were ending their session. Come last fall, again I was in a weird time with Jim deploying. I put myself out there more but never found a close friend. And now we’ll be leaving within the year. So it seems pointless. Yet it isn’t, I know. We could still have another year and that could be an awfully lonely year. And Jim is coming home. And other things. Times like this we could just put down our roots and I could find close, lifetime long friends.

I’m just in a total funk.

I sent out an e-mail with our new address. If you didn’t receive it, e-mail me at jtbrookover@gmail.com and I’ll send it on. We lost some e-mail addresses in the move, so I didn’t have many.

We drove by our house after we signed the lease. We have one building next to us and our garage backs up to an alley with, I think, six families. We are on the end and our side & front yard opens up to a big lot. We face a busy street but we’re set back from it a good distance.

Good news: They have loaner furniture available for us including living room furniture, washer & dryer, dining room table and bedroom furniture. That should come on the 18^th.

Bad news: Our first shipment of goods isn’t scheduled to be here until the 28^th. Which means we’re basically in the same boat as we were last summer. So we’re hitting the thrift shops this week to look for some pots & pans, etc. And we’ll need to buy some bedding linens. And a few Christmas decorations that were in that shipment.

All new patients at our hospital get an ultrasound, so we’re going today to see Ben one more time before we get to hold him in our arms. Jim is done processing for the day, so he’ll get to go this time!

Almost 15 months after we arrived, we are ready to start our next adventure.  We are eager to see Hawaii and find out what is in store for us.

It has been a good year for us.  I was very lucky to find a wonderful mom’s group just after arriving.  I felt welcome by the end of the first meeting.  We found a good church.  And, best of all, we got to see Jim much more than we expected.

We arrive into Honolulu appx. 9pm local time (3am our time).  We have to sign in at the USO and, hopefully, someone from Jim’s unit will be there waiting to take us to the inn on base.  Jim has to report on Tuesday and we’ll then learn what the rest of the week’s schedule will be.  Hopefully we’ll get to start house-hunting before the weekend.  Our first shipment should be there 1-2 weeks after we arrive.

We are officially packed up. The last of our goods left Wednesday. We had a great packing crew–very fast, efficient and friendly. We were very pleased with their service. We have our walk-through inspection this afternoon and we’ll then officially be out of our place.

We are in Columbus until tomorrow and then we head over to Atlanta for a couple days. We fly out Monday afternoon.

I said the last of my goodbyes yesterday…at my BFing group. I was pretty sad to say goodbye. Its a great group of ladies who have seen me through E’s weaning and all my pregnancy sickness & fears. I hope to find another great group in Hawaii.

I picked up my OB records today. My OB decided, at the last minute, not to give me a letter approving me to fly. I’m a bit annoyed b/c there is no reason why I shouldn’t fly. Luckily, Delta doesn’t have any cut-off restriction for flying & doesn’t require a health certificate, so it shouldn’t be an issue. Still, its annoying because he said two weeks ago it would be no problem and now he is trying to pull scare tactics to get me not to fly. As if I have any desire to stay here w/o Jim and with a 3yo for 2.5 months with NO furniture (done that already!!!), birth here alone, for the very, very remote chance that something will happen in the air when I’m perfectly healthy to fly.

I’m very much ready to just get to Hawaii. The waiting around makes me a little nuts. We’re planning to do some touristy things in Atlanta tomorrow & Sunday, so that’ll keep us distracted. Then Monday morning we have to take my car to get shipped. Then we head to the airport after lunch.

Hawaii–We got our first load packed up yesterday, the rest of our goods next week and we fly out on the 3rd.  I’m just ready to be there and get settled.  Especially with my due date looming!!  I want to get into a house & get an OB appointment before I go into labor!!!  I am feeling more relaxed after we got our goods packed yesterday, arranged to have one car shipped out today and made hotel arrangements for Hawaii.

I’m not looking forward to saying goodbye to my mom’s/breastfeeding group.  I started coming there less than two weeks after we got here and I’ve been almost weekly since.  They were so valuable as I worked through the emotions around E’s weaning and through my roller-coaster emotions of this pregnancy.

Thanksgiving–I hope everyone has a wonderful day/weekend.  We’re going up to see the family.  Surprising most of them.  We weren’t supposed to be back up before we left.  Most will think we’re probably spending this weekend packing and getting ready for the packers.  So that’ll be fun.
