Getting Red out of Carpet

June 18th, 2007 · 3 Comments

Any brilliant ideas??  I have no idea when this happened or what it is.  The last time I had red drink in the house was December and I don’t remember spilling anything (and I can’t imagine I wouldn’t have cleaned it up!).  DH has red Powerade sometimes but never sits in the chair it was near.  (I just discovered it when I moved the end table.)  I’ve tried Resolve Spot Magic (my go-to), some stain cleaner in a blue can from the automotive section, Oxi Clean, water & Dawn and even a bit of gentle bleach (it helped some but I don’t want to use it since my carpet isn’t pure white).  I remember Wal-mart used to carry a selection of stain fighters targeted to different types of stains but my Wal-mart doesn’t carry them & I can’t find them in any other store.

Store product or some homemade concoction…anything!  I’m sure this carpet will need to be replaced when we move out anyway (it was stained & well-worn before we moved in last fall) but I’d rather NOT leave it with a big pinkish-red spot!!

Try a fabric store for those individual yellow bottles of stain remover. I remember when I worked at Jo-Anns we had them there… Good luck!

Oh, good idea! Our Hancock is a junk store but I think there’s an independent fabric store not far from me. I’ll try there!

I’ve been able to get it down to a pinkish color. Right now I have a shout wipe and a damp towel on it and more pink is coming up.

um…my mom used to use hydrogen peroxide to get stains out. We’ve used it for Andy’s many barfing episodes on our carpets/furniture, and it’s always worked pretty well too.
