The Army’s Idea of a Joke

May 17th, 2006 · 3 Comments

is to have your short-haul stuff on its way, your household goods on its way, your car on its way, your long-term storage items stored, plane tickets purchased and then REVOKE your orders!!  Oh, and add to that having sold your other car and your house scheduled to be torn down in three days.  The only response possible?  LAUGH, LAUGH, LAUGH

It is all for a good reason but the timing was terrible!! 10 days before we were scheduled to leave for Vilseck, Jim gets called back in from his leave.  The army is short candidates to OCS this fiscal year, so some candidates who passed the local board were direct-selected (meaning his packet doesn't have to go on to the DA-level board) and will be heading to OCS in the next several months.  But 10 days before we were to leave??!

We've moved into one of the new Discovery Village buildings and we bought a car. Our long-term storage items were delivered today.  JPPSO is trying to track down our goods to get them turned around.  Our car is already on the boat, so it appears we'll have to wait until it gets to Germany to get it turned around.  They tried to intercept it but couldn't without the actual orders which they were slow in getting to us.  By the time we got the orders, the car was already on board.

I am still in shock that we aren't going to Germany and continue to laugh about this situation.  If I didn't laugh, my head would explode!!  We're settling in fine.  Elizabeth loves having empty rooms to run around in. :-)  We're disappointed not to go but it has been a good reminder that nothing is certain in the army!

Since we aren't going, I'm going to move over my posts from our Gehen wir! blog, for posterity's sake, and close it down.

Omgoodness! Thats crazy! Well you certainly seem in good spirits despite! I would probably be quite upset and finding people to yell at. Of course if I were used to these things like you are, maybe I wouldnt get so upset! Hopefully you wont have to wait *too* long to get your car back and get unpacked! I hope you dont have to repack anytime soon after all this!

I can’t even imagine. So are you living in a house now? It sounds terrific! At least you can say goodbye to the weird-looking bathroom, right? LOL! :) I hope that you enjoy your new place. That would be *so* hard for me, not *knowing* if/when everything will change [and then having to rearrange everything at a moment's notice]. I don’t see how you do it! One of the women in my moms’ group is in Germany right now, doing missionary work.

Not a house-house, unfortunately. We gotta’ move up the rank a bit more still. :) We’re in a two-story triplex though. And it looks more suburbian-house like than rundown ghetto. ;) And, yes, said goodbye to the weird bathroom! LOL I forgot that I had sent you those pictures!! Wow…what a lifetime ago that was, it seems!
