So….they come for our first round of household goods tomorrow. This shipment will be the goods that are to come quickly. We were originally told it would be there waiting for us when we arrive. Now we’re being told it will be a couple weeks later. We’ll see what htey tell us tomorrow! We can send about 1000 pounds tomorrow. Sounds like a lot, doesn’t it? I think it will be. But HOW in the heck do we know how much that is?! LOL We’re trying to figure out what we want to send (no furniture except the crib) but we just don’t know how much to set out. Hopefully they’ll be able to estimate what we already have out and that will help us figure out what else to send. And its hard to figure out what things we’ll want right away but that are also things we can do without for the next month!! We tried thinking about what things we needed when Jim first got here. He was here about six weeks without our household goods. Bedding, plates, cups, computer, couple pans….check, check, check, check, check. Silverware, towels, cups…check, check, check. Whatever we REALLY need when we get there, no matter what we pack for each shipment, will be in the other one. LOL They will take us to the PX & commissary upon arrival, so we’ll be able to get things then. Beyond that, we’ll have to make do!
Next Monday & Tuesday the movers come for the rest of our goddies, minus the things that will be in our luggage.
Elizabeth was visibly stressed today as we emptied the dining room out to make room for tomorrow’s packing. I plan to take her out a bit while Jiim supervises the madness. Hopefully that will make things a little easier on her. I’m more worried about next week for her and the cats.
Ugh. I hate the process of moving!!! Yea, I know, great occupation for that. I’m sure it’ll get easier with practice. And I know that OCONUS (overseas) moves are a bit more complicated than CONUS moves. Plus it seems this move is even more complicated than regular OCONUS moves because the entire brigade is going. PLUS we’re going as part of the advanced party. That means we’re the guinea pigs. It also means we get first dibs at our housing, getting to know the area, etc. But we’re still guinea pigs!!!
