Almost Christmas! By this time of the month, I’m on the hunt for some new Christmas listens. The only album I never tire is Oak Ridge Boys Christmas. New-to-me songs or new-to-me renditions, I don’t care. I just need something new by this time! So below are a few of my favorite playlists for Spotify, Amazon & YouTube.
Amazon Prime Music
If you’re an Amazon Prime member, there are a number of great Christmas albums & playlists available. (I don’t know when they started Prime Music but I only found it last winter. I don’t listen to music much (outside of the Christmas season) but there seems to be a large selection.)
50 Great Christmas Songs is a great mix of all the traditional Christmas songs made up of a nice mixture of new voices & the old ones you already know.
A Christmas Together–John Denver & The Muppets takes me back to my childhood. John Denver + Christmas just go together for me. Add in the Muppets and I’m seven years old trying to shake my Christmas presents all over again.
Indie music isn’t something I drift to very often but I have been enjoying this playlist, Indie for the Holidays. My favorite song on the playlist is Silent Night by Wild Child.
A cocktail is party is about the last thing I’d ever host (my style is margaritas + non-fancy appetizers!) but this Christmas Cocktail Party playlist has been dinnertime music for us the last couple weeks.
Now to Spotify lists….But first…
At 32 weeks pregnant & on my birthday & three weeks before Christmas, we moved to Hawai’i which was nearly the only duty station I did not want. It had been a rough pregnancy and I was sure he was going to be born before Christmas & before we got into a house and I’d have to bring him home to the hotel. I was an emotional mess. We moved into our new home a week before Christmas (without our goods but at least we had loaner furniture & we weren’t hotel living!), we bought a small, spindly Christmas tree at Lowe’s and Baby Boy stayed put (stayed put, in fact, until past his due date). I can look back at that first Christmas and smile (cooking a traditional Christmas dinner in disposable ovenware & one stove-top pan we had put in our luggage + plastic cutlery and one flipper/spatula was quite the challenge!). The next Christmas fell during a deployment. And the one after that, our last in Hawai’i, came two months after the end of that deployment. While I never came to love Hawai’i, it grew on me. There was something about Christmas lights wrapped around palm trees, eating out during the holidays meaning actually eating outside at restaurants and coming out of stores to warm air rather than brisk & bitter wind.
And that’s the story of this Island Christmas playlist. I’ll be Home for Christmas makes a few appearances (it’s one of my favorites), some non-Christmas Hawaiian music, a little Jimmy Buffett and some Hawaiian Christmas songs round it out. White Christmas by Jim Kimo West may be my favorite song on this playlist.
Classical Christmas is an instrumental playlist of traditional Christmas songs that is perfect for our homeschool days. We almost always have instrumental music on during school & this list was enjoyed by all of us last year.
Fellow Disney fan? Close your eyes, turn this list on and you’ll be walking through the parks on a warm Florida (or California) night surrounded by Disney Christmas magic.
